- Hey lovelies, I hope you’re all warm and well!
Let’s not lie, shaving is such a ball ache, isn’t it? I find the whole process really dull and boring, not to mention time consuming. After you’ve spent a good half hour de-fuzzing yourself, you’re silky smooth, but only for a day or two. Then we’re at it again. As a woman who has excessive hair growth, I feel the need to shave frequently, but I always end up with a rash. After looking into ways of preventing razor burn (what causes the rash) I stumbled across friction free shaving.
Friction free shaving is a monthly subscription costing as little as £5 a month. If you get through blades as quick as me, that’s a bloody good deal! In your subscription they’ll send you enough razor blade heads for the month, and sometimes they chuck in extra little gifts! You do get the razor handle too! I was kindly sent over the “Rose” gift box which includes the razor, 6 blades and a 3 step cream system. Obviously I couldn’t wait to see how it worked for me.
The razor I have is the first metal handled razor that’s specifically designed for women. It’s a gorgeous rose gold colour and it feels weighty which is great for added control. The blade heads clip on and off easily and come with a double moisture bars for extra silkiness! Each head has 6 diamond coated steel plates for a closer more comfortable shave. Used alongside the shave cream (we’ll get on to that in a second) I found them to be the perfect friction free shaving combination.Using my razor was easy. I had control over the movement and the 90° pivot head meant I could glide over the contours of my body with ease.
A gentle and natural exfoliating scrub to use before shaving. Removes all the dead skin cells and muck is removed before shaving to prepare the skin for a better shave. Admittedly, I never used to exfoliate before shaving but I’ve noticed a difference after just a few uses. Plus this scrub smells amazing! I found the formula worked great on my overly sensitive skin. It wasn’t hugely chunk and harsh feeling. I did find that if the scrub wasn’t thoroughly washed off, my skin felt slightly tacky. Not a major issue, just something to note.
The shave cream acts as a lubricant for your razor. Using a thin layer when shaving has resulted in little to no razor burn for me, yay! The cream is packed with skin nourishing, natural ingredients. Manuka honey to help soothe and calm redness. Shea butter is great for keeping skin soft and smooth. It’s also is a great anti inflammatory which is good news to people who suffered with razor burn like me. I love how this feels on my skin, isn’t to heavy and doesn’t leave an oily residue either, bonus!
Post shave balm
Before using these products, my razor rash would appear a few hours after shaving. It was red looking, sore and itchy. I never once thought to use a post shave balm (we only use that as a primer now right?) Since using this, the shaving game has been changed. The balm instantly calms, cools and soothes any irritated skin while leaving it super soft. Smells so fresh and works great on sensitive skin too.
Overall, I really like how the combination of these products has worked for me. I don’t suffer with inflamed itchy and irritated skin anymore. While the whole process takes a little extra time, it’s so worth it. The price point is affordable for a lot of budgets. Remembering it’s important to keep your blades sharp and clean, the subscription is a great idea. I’d recommend you take a look into what friction free shaving can do for you.
