Hey loveliess, I hope you’re well!
I’m 100% guilty of being glued to my phone 24/7 and at every given spare moment in the day. I constantly scroll through my socials and interact with the beautiful people I follow. My follow count across twitter, Facebook and Pinterest have really improved, but there’s one app that I constantly battle with, that app goes by the name of INSTAGRAM!
Instagram is a fantastic app to get a little snapshot into peoples lives and interests, I think there’s a lot to be learnt from someone’s Instagram profile purely based on the pictures they take. We’ve all see the ones that have incredible flatlays, with perfectly positioned products contrasted against a cute little succulent plant, copper caged basket or other stereotypical blogger prop. These are the kind of images I refer to as ‘gram goals. I scroll through their feed and everything is so aesthetically pleasing to me, and of course they have the follow count and interaction levels to match their perfect pictures, but is it always authentic?
There’s been recent controversy over the authenticity of some well know instgram accounts recently, and it’s a little disheartening to the micro influencer like my self to hear of these accounts are BUYING followers, likes and comments. Essentially, their growth is anything from organic and it really gives brands unrealistic expectations on who to work with and what kind of figures to expect. It seems as though blogging has become a numbers game (Which is ironic because it’s all about the quality of your writing really) and I’ve struggled with my Instagram growth since day 1, now I know why. In my opinion, buying followers and other interactions for your socials is cheating the system. I get emails all the time about boosting my following for a bargain price. Have I been tempted? Sure I have, but I’ve never done it, and do you know why? because when my account DOES grow, I know I’ve done it myself!
Plus, who else is overly bored with the “Follow/Unfollow” game. Who even has the time?
To be honest, Instagram is a big source of inspiration to me, I’ve spoken to some really cool people on there and had a few opportunities come my way, but I kind of feel the pressure with trying to snapshot perfection (whilst using only my phone camera) and keep up with everyone else. I feel a bit left behind if that makes sense?
I will continue to do my best to grow my account and improve my photo’s, but I’m not going to let the pressure get to me. So what if I don’t have pure white backgrounds, fresh bouquets of flowers and an “instagramable” home. I’m doing my best with what I’ve got so surely that counts for something.
If you’re feeling the same way, let me know I’m not alone in the comments below and if you want to pop me a follow on Instagram, you can find me here. (I’d really appreciate it)
Kisses and Love
