Hey lovelies, I hope you’re warm and well!
Me and the girlies at work got together for a fun evening of bowling and good food to celebrate our final Christmas together before the nursery closes. Our destination of choice was Hollywood bowl in Stevenage, followed by a 3 course meal in TGI Fridays. Bowling was fun, I ended up winning which was surprising as I was a little tipsy and haven’t bowled for ages! Bowling is hungry work and we couldn’t wait to eat!
I’m a big fan of TGI’s, the food is always so yummy, the service has always been great and price wise I think it’s very reasonable. As there was a group of us, we all opted for the Christmas menu, seemed like a good selection of food on offer and we could pre order our food before arrival. Everyone was looking forward to having a scrummy meal and we were seated promptly.
For starter I opted for Sesame jack frost chicken. Chicken breast strips smothered in sticky jack daniels sauce with sesame seeds, chilli flakes and a sprinkle of icing sugar. Sounds a little odd, icing sugar on chicken but I wasn’t mad at it. For me, it was a little to spicy though. The chilli gave the dish a lot of heat and I was hoping the icing sugar would cut through it, but my mouth was very warm ! The portion size was very generous and it was tasty, I didn’t finish though as I wanted to save room for the other two courses.
For main, I had a burger and fries. A big beef burger, tender cooked chicken breast smothered in jack daniels glaze with caramelised oinions, stuffing and a toasted brioche bun! Alongside my burger I had crispy french fries and a little pot of jack daniels gravy. The whole meal looked so yummy I couldn’t wait to dig in. I had to half the burger as it was huge and when I bit in, the burger itself was really bland and didn’t taste of much really. I didn’t enjoy it so decided to push the burger aside and eat the chicken instead. The chicken was so good! Fries were okay, a little cold but still nice to dip into the sauce.
I have a huge sweet tooth so naturally I was so excited for pudding. I ordered chocolate orange popcorn sundae, sounded really nice on paper but after waiting for what seemed like a life time for it to be served, I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. The ice cream had almost completely melted, the popcorn was really hard and there was so much orange sauce it was really over powering. Presentation wise, it seemed like everything had just been chucked in a sundae glass and left on the side for a while. I didn’t even take a photo of my pudding because it really looked like a total mess, and it seemed like everyone who has the same as me, didn’t enjoy theirs either which is a shame.
Overall, the food wasn’t great and neither was the service. I had nice company which made the experience a lot better but I don’t know that I would order from the Christmas menu again. The regular meals are super yummy though.
